February is Black History Month on Campus

Join the University of Guelph in celebrating Black History Month! Annually, events are held on campus to celebrate the vibrant history of the Black community and their immeasurable contributions to our country and U of G. Going along with this year's theme, 360°; Health and Wellness, the Guelph Black Students Association and Student Experience planned 12 events across the month to increase awareness of and promote dialogue about Black communities' experiences of health and well-being.

Navigating Nature and Academia as a Disabled Scientist, a Talk by Dr. Kelsey Byers

January 24th marks International Day of Education, representing education as a human right, a public good, and a public responsibility. The theme for 2024 is "learning under lasting peace" to bring awareness to education's crucial role in countering hate speech. Without inclusive access to academia, many children, youth, and adults will struggle to achieve quality education and opportunities. One such struggle is that of a disabled person navigating the academic field to meet the challenges of receiving quality education and opportunities.

We are excited to share our 2022-23 Live Work Well Research Centre Annual Report! This past year was marked with many activities and achievements for the LWWRC, including revisiting and revising our Strategic Plan for 2023–27 and hosting our Reimagining Livelihoods Forum in August 2023. We look forward to many more accomplishments over the year to come!

As part of International Development Week, Humanity and Inclusion (HI) Canada, in collaboration with the Association québécoise des organismes de coopération internationale (AQOCI), is organizing a French-only webinar event entitled "Women and Girls with Disabilities: Official Development Assistance at the Crossroads of Disability and Gender" on Thursday, February 8, from 11 am-12 pm (UTC-5).

In support of this event, we are sharing our interview with Evelyn Huntjens about Indigenous Disability Awareness Month (IDAM), which takes place annually in November, and her work in supporting disability services to Indigenous peoples.
