Countering Policy Exclusions: Leading in Policy & Politics–Women & Girls with Disabilities – November 10, 2025

On November 10, 2025, from 3:00-4:30 PM ET, the Live Work Well Research Centre will be co-hosting our fourth panel in the Countering Policy Exclusions speaker series.

Our first panel, on February 27, 2025, focused on gaps in support for people with disabilities in Canada and beyond. Our second panel, on April 10, 2025, highlighted inadequate and inaccessible housing supports for Canadians with disabilities. Finally, our most recent panel, on May 12, 2025, included a discussion on Medical Assistance in Dying Track 2 legislation and a review of the Global Disability Summit. Event recordings and other materials are available on these webpages.

Our upcoming fourth panel, Leading in Policy Politics – Women & Girls with Disabilities, will examine the underrepresentation of women with disabilities in national organizations of persons with disabilities, national gender-equality institutions, and in government decision-making. Panelists will discuss how women, girls, and gender-diverse people with disabilities are providing leadership in policy and politics, and what helps and hinders their leadership.

This panel will be hosted by the Live Work Well Research Centre’s postdoctoral researcher, Hiwot Mekuanent, who studies barriers to leadership for women with disabilities under the EDID-GHDI project. Hiwot will be joined by four knowledgeable panelists: Kerryann Ifill, Rabia Khedr, Jutta Treviranus, and Margaux Wosk.

Registration is required. To register and learn more information, including full panelist bios, please visit our event page on the Live Work Well Research Centre website. This panel is a hybrid event, with unlimited online attendance. However, in-person attendance is limited. If you would like to guarantee your spot in person, please register as soon as you are able.

A human captioner will be present at this hybrid event to provide live, accurate, real-time captions (CART captioning). If you require ASL as a disability accommodation, please register by Monday, October 27, so we can make arrangements.

This event is the fourth in a series co-hosted by the Live Work Well Research Centre and Dr. Leah Levac’s Canada Research Chair in Critical Community Engagement and Public Policy. This event is also co-hosted by the Guelph Institute of Development Studies.
