New Products from Statistics Canada Highlight the Diverse Experiences of Persons with Disabilities

December 3, 2025, was International Day of Persons with Disabilities. To commemorate the occasion, Statistics Canada released a series of products to help inform progress on the Accessible Canada Act. The goal of these new releases is to highlight the diverse experiences of Canadians with disabilities.

The first content Statistics Canada released was an article in The Daily entitled International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 2025: Highlighting the experiences of persons with disabilities. The article shares key details on the intersectional experiences of being disabled. It looks at how racialized people are affected by disability, unemployment rates for disabled Canadians, and the prevalence of dynamic disabilities—conditions in which symptoms are not always the same but vary in severity and impact over short time periods— amongst disabled Canadians.

Statistics Canada also shared two infographics informed by data from the 2022 Canadian Survey on Disability. The first is an infographic focusing on dynamic disabilities in the Survey and their presence across different demographics in Canada. The second is an infographic looking at racialized persons with disabilities in the Survey and how racial inequality intersects with disability in Canada.

A report was also released called Changes in the population and employment rates oof persons with disabilities, 2017 to 2022. In this publication, Statistics Canada explores increases in employment for persons with disabilities in Canada between 2017 and 2022. Up until now, the cause of this employment increase has been largely unexplored. Researchers examine population characteristics, workplace experiences, and employment rates of persons with disabilities to explain increased employment for disabled Canadians.

Finally, Statistics Canada’s new interactive dashboard presenting employment data for persons with disabilities is an opportunity for users to explore data according to their interests. The dashboard lets users explore different years of data collection—beginning in 2017, compare data from disabled Canadians to data from non-disabled Canadians, and examine different levels of involvement in the labour force.
