Partnership Engage Research Grant – Storied Lives: shifting perspectives on poverty

The Live Work Well Research Centre and the Guelph and Wellington Task Force for Poverty Elimination have been awarded a one-year Partnership Engage Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). The research project titled Storied Lives: shifting perspectives on poverty, will develop a collection of composite stories of those living in poverty in the Guelph-Wellington, Ontario region.

Call for Submission for MAI: Feminism and Visual Culture on Feminist Pedagogies

The intersectional feminist and LGBTQI journal MAI is seeking contributions to a special issue on feminist pedagogies. This special issue aims to explore the place of feminism in the classroom, revealing pleasure and resistance, complaint and celebration. It welcomes contributions that address the strategies, obstacles, and opportunities of feminist pedagogy in a range of contexts from classroom discussions and syllabi to faculty committee meetings, screening rooms, and activist spaces.

Call for Papers! Sexuality Studies Association

The Sexuality Studies Association is welcoming proposals for the annual meeting, to be held June 2-4, 2019 at the University of British Columbia, in conjuction with the Congress of Social Sciences and Humanities. Proposals for work in English or French, from any disciplinary are welcome. Presentations can be in a variety of formats including papers, panels, workshops, roundtables, film, performance art pieces, among others.

Calling all employers, managers, executive directors, HR specialists, and other professionals supporting employees!

Do you have experience supporting (or trying to support) employees who live with episodic disabilities (EDs; conditions that are characterized by periods of good health interrupted by periods of illness or disability)? If so, we are requesting 15 minutes of your time to complete an online survey regarding your experiences with accommodating EDs in the workplace. Your responses will be used to help us develop information and resources to support employers to retain and support employees with episodic health conditions while meeting business/service objectives.

Not all Parents Benefit from Canada’s Parental Leave Program

TVO's current affairs blog recently addressed the disparities in income support for new parents in Canada. As the blog notes, historically Canada has compared favourably to "its OECD peers when it comes to parental leave," and in December 2017, the Canadian government further expanded its parental leave program. The new policy extends benefits from 12 months of partially paid leave to 18. The amount of the benefit remains unchanged, but what has changed is that parents can now stretch the same amount over 18 months.
