THINC Lab’s IF… Speaker Series: Digital Methodologies of Care in Social Media Research

On December 3, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm, the Live Work Well Research Centre’s Reimagining Care research cluster will be hosting the next event in the THINC lab’s IF… Speaker Series, a panel discussion on Digital Methodologies of Care in Social Media Research. Taking place on the second floor of the University of Guelph’s Mclaughlin Library, in the THINC Lab, this interactive conversation will explore how to apply feminist ethics of care in social media research.

Across disciplines researchers are using social media platforms like Instagram, Tiktok, and Facebook to conduct their research. Roberta Hawkins and Amy Kipp, co-leads of the Reimagining Care research cluster, will facilitate a conversation on key practical, methodological, and ethical considerations for researchers conducting social media research. Sharing examples from past research projects, this conversation will introduce feminist care ethics as an approach that can help researchers navigate these challenges and realize the possibilities of doing social media research in a more care-filled way.

The Reimagining Care cluster explores care in digital worlds; feminist ethics of care in academia; and community care and social change. Roberta is a feminist geographer and Professor in the Department of Geography, Environment, and Geomatics, and Amy is a postdoctoral research scholar with the Community Engaged Scholarship Institute.

This event is free and open to all, and accessible by elevator. Light refreshments will be provided, and feel free to bring your lunch! To register for this event, please visit the IF… Speaker Series Eventbrite page. To read more about Roberta and Amy’s work, please visit the Feminist Digital Research website
