Hybrid Panel: Countering Policy Exclusions: Centring accessibility to advance the right to housing
Join the Live Work Well Research Centre (LWWRC) and the Canada Research Chair in Critical Community Engagement and Public Policy on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 12:30pm to 2:00pm ET for an engaging panel on Countering Policy Exclusions: Centring accessibility to advance the right to housing. The event will be held both virtually via Zoom and in person at the University of Guelph in MacKinnon Room 019. Registration is required.
Despite various promises made to people with disabilities – particularly women, girls, and gender-diverse people with disabilities – accessible housing options in Ontario and across the country are deeply inadequate. People with disabilities face alarming rates of homelessness, housing insecurity, and housing inadequacy. Women with disabilities are especially likely to experience homelessness because of violence or abuse. These realities create dangerous situations when combined with insufficient housing support across Ontario, a failure to centre accessibility in efforts to increase housing supply, and grossly inadequate social assistance rates for people with disabilities.
This panel of civil society leaders and researchers will explore what is needed to ensure the right to housing for women and gender-diverse people with disabilities across the province. They will also highlight how women and gender-diverse people with disabilities are playing a leadership role in responding to housing failures.
Panelists Mike Greer, Rosalind (Roz) Gunn, and Alex Nelson will facilitate this conversation. Read more about the panelists and register for the event by visiting the events page on the LWWRC website.
