Conducting International Research Lecture by Deborah Stienstra, November 6 with CSAHS
From November 5th – 8th, 2024, the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences (CSAHS) will be hosting Research Week. This week celebrates interdisciplinary collaboration through research exchange, networking opportunities, and an overall strengthening of the research community. Over the course of three days, a series of researchers will present on a research topic of their choosing followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
Day two of this initiative will focus on the theme of Conducting International Research. The Director of the Live Work Well Research Centre (LWWRC), Deborah Stienstra, will present on one of the Centre’s international projects on November 6th, from 12-1:30pm. Adam Sneyd and Noella Gray will also present on their experiences conducting international research.
Deborah holds the Jarislowsky Chair in Families and Work at the University of Guelph where she also acts as a professor of political science and Director of the LWWRC. Her work focuses on the intersections of disabilities, gender, childhood, and Indigenousness. By identifying barriers, possibilities, and opportunities for engagement and change within the disabled community, Dr. Stienstra contributes to trans/international research for disability rights and justice.
At the LWWRC, Deborah leads the Engendering Disability-Inclusive Development – Genre, handicap et développement inclusif (EDID-GHDI) partnership. With connections in Vietnam, Haiti, South Africa, and Canada. EDID-GHDI explores the struggles of women and girls with disabilities in obtaining disability rights and justice.
