Hand in Hand? Canada at the Human Rights and Peacebuilding Nexus, November 4
Join us on November 4, 2024, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the University of Guelph’s OVC Lifetime Learning Centre 1715, to welcome guest speaker Kirsten Van Houten. As co-editor with Alex Neve, Kirsten will be making the first public presentation of their recent book, Hand in Hand? Canada at the Human Rights and Peacebuilding Nexus. This book, developed with Canadian academics and civil society leaders, critically examines foreign policy and international relations, exploring the roles of state and non-state actors, advocacy, and domestic political, cultural, and social developments. Kirsten will lead us on a critical exploration of Canada’s foreign policy, international relations, and the transformative role of Indigenous nation-to-nation relationships.
Kirsten is an academic and practitioner at the human rights and peacebuilding nexus and a post-doctoral researcher with the Engendering Disability-Inclusive Development (EDID-GHDI) partnership with U of G’s Live Work Well Research Centre. She has a Ph.D. in International Development Studies from the University of Ottawa, an M.A. in International Development Studies from Dalhousie University, and a Combined Honours B.A. in Human Rights and Law from Carleton University.
The book will be published in January 2025.
