CERC Health Equity and Community Wellbeing Speaker Series – Mar 5

On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 3:30 pm ET, the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Health Equity and Community Wellbeing invites you to a hybrid speaker series virtually and at 288 Church St., Toronto – Room 707.

The speaker series, entitled “Structures of Support: Cultivating Conditions for Community Wellbeing in Universities and Campus Space,” will feature contributions from Eliza Chandler, Jessica Griffiths, Lisa Afriyie, and the Office of Social Innovation at Toronto Metropolitan University. Hosted by Karen Soldatić, CERC in Health Equity and Community Wellbeing, and with opening remarks by Danielle Landry, this event is free and open to the public.

This panel will emphasize relationship-building, decolonization, and justice. Building on bell hooks’ (2000) notion of moving the margins to the centre, panelists explore how the university and those of us inside it can create the conditions for all students to experience wellbeing. The panelists will discuss how every student at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) must have the opportunity to experience wellbeing, safety, and community in all aspects of student and university life. They will then question who has access to wellbeing in universities, which are governed by particular cultural norms, values, priorities, and investments. The panel will also discuss how achieving wellbeing requires systemic changes.

Live captioning will be provided on Zoom. For further questions and access inquiries, please contact Tarndeep Pannu by February 28, 2025. Please visit the CERC event page to register for this event.
