The Storied Lives project will be holding group listening sessions for their podcast series, Storied Lives: Shifting Perspectives on Poverty. Created through a joint research project by the Guelph and Wellington Task Force for Poverty Elimination and the University of Guelph’s Community Engaged Scholarship Institute and Live Work Well Research Centre, this project encourages members of the public to learn more about the causes of poverty by amplifying the voices of those experiencing poverty.
You’re invited to join the project team for one or more of the following group listening sessions:
Wednesday, November 22, 2 to 4 p.m. - Episode 1: Saving Grace
This episode explores themes of rural poverty, mental health and physical disability. It includes an interview with Elsa Mann, Team Leader - Rural Wellington Community Team at Mount Forest Family Health Team.
Wednesday, November 22, 6 to 8 p.m. - Episode 2: Quota
This episode explores themes of poverty, racism and xenophobia. It includes an interview with Jasmine Ramze Rezaee, Director of Advocacy & Communications at YWCA Toronto.
Wednesday, November 29, 2 to 4 p.m. - Episode 3: Old Enough to Hit
This episode explores themes of poverty, family and sexual violence, intimate partner violence and harassment. It includes an interview with Lieran Docherty, former Director of Programs at Women Abuse Council of Ontario.
Wednesday, November 29, 6 to 8 p.m. - Episode 4: Paying Customers Only
This episode explores themes of poverty, addiction, substance use, mental health, racism, policing and physical violence. It includes an interview with Dr. Akwatu Khenti, Assistant Professor at University of Toronto's Dalla Lana School of Public Health.
