Truth & Reconciliation Week, Sept 23-30, 2024
September 23rd marked the beginning of Truth and Reconciliation Week at the University of Guelph and across Canada. This week is a time to honour the lost children and survivors of residential schools, and recognize the ongoing effects of colonization on First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
The University is holding a variety of events to foster reconciliation on campus, including a series of lunch and learns with the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation and a collection of digital conversations with the "Connecting – Resilience – Indigenous Truth & Reconciliation" Online Discussion Group.
Activities will culminate on September 30th for Orange Shirt Day, a grassroots movement started in 2013 by Phyllis Webstad. Bring out your orange shirts and use this week to learn, listen, and reflect.
