Transgender Awareness Week November 13-19

November 13 marks the beginning of Transgender Awareness Week, which will run until November 19 and culminate on November 20 for Transgender Day of Remembrance. This week is an opportunity for advocates to raise awareness about the transgender community through events, education, and spirit.

Transgender Day of Remembrance was first observed in 1999 to honour the victims of anti-transgender hate crimes. Since then, the week before the twentieth has evolved into a period where attention is drawn, through the sharing of stories and experiences, to the prejudice and discrimination trans individuals face.

This week the University of Guelph is hosting a series of events to celebrate transgender lives and joy.

Trans Awareness Week: Tote Bag Painting | Friday, November 15, UC 303, from 1:00-3:30 p.m.

Intersectional Discussion Series: Cultural Diversity x OUTline | Tuesday, November 19, UC 390, from 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Transgender Day of Remembrance: Processing Space | Wednesday, November 20, UC 302, from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
