Workshop: Navigating Difficult Conversations on Intergenerational Trauma

This Friday, January 17, 2025, from 1:00pm to 2:30pm, the University of Guelph will be hosting an online workshop focused on intergenerational trauma.

The workshop will be led by Dr. Patlee Creary, a lived experience researcher-storyteller, educator, writer, and mental health advocate. Patlee also works as the Founder and Lead Facilitator of the Reyou Mindfulness Collective. This project has contributed to the improvement of mental health through lived experience storytelling, journaling, and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR).

This workshop will focus on how to develop an awareness for the complexities of intergenerational trauma using sensitivity and compassion. Participants will learn how to foster empathy, understanding, and resilience in order to engage in meaningful discussions around intergenerational trauma and to support an inclusive campus environment.

The Live Work Well Research Centre continues to engage in multiple projects aimed at helping diverse communities from different backgrounds. Intergenerational trauma is an underlying theme in much of the research conducted at the Centre.

We encourage U of G staff, students, and faculty to attend this training to develop a better understanding of the diverse backgrounds within our campus community. To sign up and find out more, read the full event description.
