Intersecting Agendas: Gender and Disability-Inclusive Peacebuilding at the UN, September 26, 2025
On September 26, 2025, from 10:30AM-12:00PM ET, the Engendering Disability-Inclusive Development/Genre, handicap et développement inclusif (EDID-GHDI) partnership and Finding Their Place: The Contributions of Women with Disabilities to Peacebuilding will be co-hosting a virtual panel.
The EDID-GHDI SSHRC-funded partnership, led by our LWWRC director Deborah Stienstra, is a global effort to develop relationships with civil society organizations, policy makers, and researchers to improve the lives of diverse women and girls with disabilities.
The second SHHRC-funded project co-hosting this event is Finding Their Place, out of the University of the Fraser Valley. The Principal Investigator for this study, Kirsten Van Houten, previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher with the LWWRC. Kirsten aims to fully explore the contributions of disabled women in UN peacebuilding.
Taking place on Zoom, this event will bring together panelists to discuss the emerging inclusion of persons with disabilities in United Nations peacebuilding policy and practice.
Kirsten will be joined by three other panelists: Kirstin Lange, Janet E. Lord, and Bogna Ruminowicz. For more event details and full panelist bios and to register, please visit the EDID-GHDI event page.
Please note that a human captioner will be present at this online event to provide live, accurate, real-time captions (CART captioning). If you need ASL as a disability accommodation, please register at least two weeks before the event (by September 12) so we can make arrangements.
