Indigenous Recognition Week 2025, March 3-7

Indigenous Recognition Week 2025 is a U of G-specific celebration running from March 3-7. This week of recognition takes place each year at the University to recognize the culture and experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

Indigenous Recognition Week is an exciting celebration for the Live Work Well Research Centre as it connects to one of our five research clusters: “All My Relations” Indigenous Ways of Knowing. This cluster, led by Kim Anderson, is a space for Indigenous mentoring and networking, as well as land-based learning and activities. Through projects like Nokom’s House, the Indigenous Mentorship Network Program, and the Wisahkotewinowak Garden Collective, “All My Relations” is a space on campus where students can explore Indigenous knowledge and practices, Indigenous feminist spaces and places, and language revitalization.

This week, the Indigenous Student Centre, the Indigenous Student Society, and the Office of Indigenous Initiatives are hosting a series of events to celebrate Indigenous cultures. Earlier this week they hosted Metis Games, Indigenous Recognition Week Performance and Food Tasting, Working with Indigenous Peoples, and Journey Down the Red Road with Elder Mary Lou Smoke.

Sweet Water Teachings with Elder Mary Lou Smoke: Thursday March 6; 1:00-2:30 p.m. at the Indigenous Student Centre
