New Zine: “Creating a More Caring University”

The Reimagining Care Cluster at the Live Work Well Research Centre (LWWRC) recently published a new zine called “Creating a More Caring University.”

This zine is the result of collaborations between Reimagining Care Cluster Co-leads, Amy Kipp and Roberta Hawkins, and Displacements, Emergence, and Change Cluster Co-lead, Leah Levac. It is based on a collective conversation during “Imagining a Caring University: A Creative Workshop,” offered as part of the LWWRC’s “Reimagining Livelihoods Forum” in August 2023 in Guelph, Ontario.

The zine uses the contributions of attendees at the forum and at workshops compiled in four different sections.

The first section, “Stories of Uncaring Universities,” uses first-hand accounts from students to demonstrate the uncare and injustice running throughout our institutions.

The second section, “Already Existing Moments of Care in Academia,” shares a series of quotes from forum participants to demonstrate moments of care in academia.

The third section, “Some Learnings from Moments of Care in Academia,” includes a bullet-point list summarizing ideas from the zine on how to create a caring academic environment.

The fourth section, “Strategies for Creating More Caring Academic Futures,” summarizes conversation points from the forum and strategy suggestions from participants on how to create a more caring academic future.

This document is available as a PDF, with accessible PDF and plain-text options. To find out more information and access the zine, visit the Reimagining Care Cluster page on the LWWRC website.
